Their wedding took place over several days at several different venues. The venues included their home, Singapore Khalsa Association, the Central Sikh Temple and Hilton Singapore Hotel.

What was interesting about this Indian wedding (besides the colors and tons of performances) was that they had a gate crashing session as well. This is something most of us thought was only practiced by the Chinese here.

Here are some images from the 3rd day of their chain of events leading to the wedding:

For those of you who have been wondering what have I been up to over the past month or so, besides the usual backlog of images and wedding day engagements. I had 2 post-wedding engagement shoots in Phuket, Thailand (which I will be sharing with you soon) as well as a workshop on Travel Photography at The Arts House, Singapore.

Here is a shot of me during the workshop:

What a beautiful venue! Thanks for helping me take that shot Bryan :D

This has got to be my most enjoyable wedding in 2011. Not only was the gate-crashing fun and expressive, they had tons of activities in place during the reception. The activities included performances by the groom and bride, games, a magic show and entertainment by Kumar, Singapore’s top drag queen.

It was really funny. I remember something Kumar said during his performance.

“Singapore has two icons, the Merlion and Kumar. The Merlion is lion on top, mermaid below while I am mermaid on top, lion below”

Earlier in the day, I had a small chat with the groom and found out he was a lawyer. I also found out that he aspired to be a full time musician but didn’t. He was really humble and I never expected him and his band to be so good when they performed during the reception. The crowd went wild! It was amazing to see the bride’s father grooving to the music. It isn’t a common sight in Singapore.

Like many other Singaporeans, he didn’t follow his dreams but chose what was practical. I understood what he was going through as I was once in his shoes. I love music, dance, gaming, martial arts and photography. During my school days, I intended to study Digital Media Design but was talked into doing something more technical like Engineering or Information Technology by my family. The idea was to go into arts after I had completed my degree if I was still interested in it as use my degree as a back up. This sounded like a great idea. However, when I had completed my degree, I realized that most arts weren’t like riding a bicycle. If you do not practice, you can easily be left behind. Also, it is hard to make a living in music and dance in Singapore. Fortunately for me, photography isn’t something you can easily forget and lose so I decided to focus all my time and energy on it and eventually became a professional photographer. I’m happy I made that decision. Best decision ever!

Wow! It has been quite awhile since my last post! I had the intention to post something for Christmas, New Year and even Chinese New Year but time hasn’t been on my side again. Besides a huge backlog of post processing work that I’ve been trying very hard to clear whenever I had the chance, I’ve been involved with some projects as well as preparations for my own wedding that was on 14 January 2012. Congrats to me!

Shooting this wedding was enjoyable and a little stressful. Why? Because most of the “brothers” including the groom are serious amateur photographers as well! In fact, there were two full tables of photographers during the reception. On the bright side of things, shooting them was a breeze. They were willing to try out suggestions and had lots of activities giving me more to work with.

I guess I’ll be placed into situations like this more often as time goes on due to how affordable digital cameras have become. Some professional photographers might feel that their jobs are threatened. To some extend, yes! We’ll definitely have to work harder to keep it. On the other hand, it is very satisfying when these groups of people are happy with your work.

My engagement photo-shoot in Hong Kong had been both exciting and refreshing compared to the actual wedding day photo-shoots that I often do in Singapore. One thing I love about my job is that it doesn’t feel like work. It just so much fun to be able to take nice pictures of couples and to see the smile on their face when they look at what I have created.

I love the temperature here. It's perfect for pre-wedding/post-wedding engagement photography! You can actually walk around in a suit without sweating out a bucket :D Oh, and the scenery is great too!

The lack of free Internet access in Hong Kong had been a little frustrating. Yes, I’m cheapskate! The hotel charges around SGD$16 per day for WIFI and the hotel rooms aren’t that cheap. Free WIFI is available in some of the fast foods but it only works for 20 minutes every 24hrs! In Vietnam, a SGD$40/night hotel might include free WIFI, breakfast as well as a desktop in every room.

On the day of my departure, I was looking forward to clearing my emails while waiting for my flight. I couldn't believe it when I found out that free-internet access was actually available. To my disappointment, the connection was extremely slow and even dropped completely on a regular basis.

We’re coming to the end of 2011. It has been a wonderful year for me and I’m happy to say that I’ve achieved my goal of qualifying as a Master Photographer (LMPA) with the Master Photographers Association. My focus for 2012 will be taking my wedding photography skills to the next level with extra emphasis on pre-wedding/post-wedding engagement photography.

If you're looking for shots where you can see both colonial and modern city architecture during your actual day wedding in Singapore, you can consider having your wedding outdoors at Raffles Hotel Singapore. It is a 5 star hotel which has been around since 1887 and survived through world war two.

After the march in and solemnization at the hotel, guests enjoyed a huge buffet at the garden while enjoying beautiful classical music performed live by a string band. Everyone then headed to Eco Gourmet Cafe in Labrador Park to have an after party.
