As I mentioned in my previous post, I have got my hands on one of the coolest “toys” in town! The Sony Alpha 55 (SLT-A55)! Why do I call it a toy? It’s because its small, light and tons of fun!
Besides being able take videos in high definition, it produces 16.2 megapixel images and is able to shoot up to 10 frames per second with precise Auto Focus (AF) tracking.
High speed shooting is really useful when taking pictures of dance performances, sports and basically anything that moves fast!
Last week I had fun using the camera to take a friend as he did crazy break-dance moves and flips off high places. The high speed shooting gave me the ability to take multiple shots of each of his moves and pick the best of the lot. I also had fun shooting in a continuous burst and combining all the images together with Adobe Photoshop.
Another cool function is the Panorama feature. It’s so simple to use! Just hold the shutter release button and move the camera in one direction. The system will stitch it automatically! The results turned out pretty good! See for yourself!

When doing Panorama, its best to use a tripod. Do ensure that your system is properly leveled before shooting.
Today, I had the opportunity to see and hear the talented singer and songwriter Tay Kewei during her press conference at TAB, Singapore. Not only is she a great singer, she was charming and is a NTU Mass Communications alumnus.
Kewei has performed in over 18 cities worldwide including Las Vegas, Toronto, Hong Kong, Taipei, Singapore, Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur and Genting), Macau, Jakarta and China (Beijing, Shanghai, Nanjing, Guiyang, Wuhan, Guangzhou, Xi An and Chengdu).
Her Debut album will be release in September 2010.
By chance, Sony has given me the privilege to try out one of their latest systems, which have yet to be released to the general public. It is the first of its kind, which makes use of Translucent Mirror Technology. It is extremely light, compact, high speed and is able to record movies in Full HD!
Here is a short video from her press conference which I recorded using the new Sony Alpha 55 (a55) and edited using iMovie:
Just to give you a general idea of the setup and how far away it was from her:

Also, if you wish to find out more about the Sony Alpha 55 (a55), I’ll be writing more articles on the cool stuff that I’ve been doing with it so stay tune!
